Capacity Development

Over the past decades, the foreign policy agenda of the Dutch government has encompassed strengthening capacities of education institutes and training providers in the green sector abroad.

This capacity development is aimed at individual professionals and educational institutes, government authorities and companies, by means of cooperation with Dutch educational institutes and companies.

Capacity development in developing and transition countries

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs therefore finances several programmes for capacity development in developing and transition countries. These programmes involve individual fellowships for mid-career professionals (Master, short courses, refresher courses), tailor-made training for groups and institutional cooperation projects.

This has undoubtedly made an essential contribution to educational renewal and practical innovation in the agricultural sector worldwide and to the broader Sustainable Development Goals. That contribution takes shape in the education and knowledge collaborations between local and Dutch education institutes, businesses and (local) governments.

Capacity development in western countries

Increasingly, also western countries are interested in capacity development trajectories with the Netherlands. These initiatives often involve agricultural education sector reforms, or development of specific knowledge ecosystems, such as in climate smart horticulture.
