Fifty years of international education

Fifty years ago, international education started in Barneveld, which was then called ‘Praktijkschool Barneveld’. This 50th anniversary was celebrated this autumn with a meeting in September and a webinar with (inter)national speakers in November, with the theme ’transition to a future-proof animal protein supply in Africa’. If you missed the webinar, it is possible to register for the replay here: https://aeresmbo.webinargeek.com/transitionin-towards-a-future-proof-animal-protein-supply

ACTI

Nowadays, international education in Barneveld is known as Aeres Training Center International (ATCI).

ATCI provides high-quality education in the fields of poultry farming, pig farming, feed production and insect farming. Students from all over the world travel to Barneveld to receive training in these areas.

The age of the students varies between 25 and 60 years. Although you are never too old to learn, being young is a great advantage. The principle of ATCI is based on the fact that students return to their home countries and train others there.  So the younger they are, the more people they can train.

Learning by doing

‘Learning by doing’ is the method in which ATCI offers education.

A practical approach that makes complex matters manageable for international students. Students learn through their experiences and get the chance to try things out in a real working environment. The students have had a wide variety of training facilities at their disposal, such as the poultry innovation lab (PIL) with a thousand laying hens and a thousand broilers and the feedmill on the campus of Aeres MBO Barneveld.  They will also follow practical education at training farms.

One of the unique training facilities on campus is the feedmill where students work in small groups in the traditional part. Later they move to a modern part as process operators and. In that way they learn to master every part of the process in the mill.

ATCI combines large-scale pragmatic, practice-oriented training with relevant theory.

Students develop their practical skills and strengthen their communication, presentation and writing skills.
Because not everyone has the opportunity to follow the training at ATCI in Barneveld, ATCI also develops and provides customized training in countries all over the world, but also for companies in the Netherlands.
